So this is my take on where things are at... the "on-the-ground" feel... the current sentiment of the christian in the marketplace. We have had a lot of marketplace seminars, conferences and meetings here in Singapore over the past 4 years. As a result, the idea of marketplace ministry is no longer foreign or fresh. Most Christians are now aware that they have a God given role to play in their workplace that goes beyond earning a living. But why has there been so little progress? Firstly, I believe that it does take time for the "Marketplace Movement" (not specifically referring to MCX), like any other movement, to gain traction. But I also believe that the slow progress has been due to a lack of encouragement. Pioneering is hard. Starting anything new; a fellowship group, prayer group or any other initiative, always requires extra time and energy. In our demanding and fast paced society, few have the courage to step out and do something. Everyone is waiting for everyone else. That is why we need "en-couragement". Getting some successful Christian business person to give a talk and rally the people won't be effective. What we really need is encouragement from the average christian (you and I) serving God in the daily grind- the actual front-lines of marketplace ministry.
What we really need is encouragement from the average christian serving God in the daily grind- the actual front-lines of marketplace ministry. They want to be inspired by (and to inspire) men and women who are in it with them. Who face what they face and are still pressing on. They want to hear testimonies from people like us and find out if it is really worthwhile. So essentially that is what MCX is trying to do. To bring one muddy marketplace solider face to face with another muddy marketplace solider so that together, they can charge

What is Marketplace Ministry? Yes, Marketplace Ministry seems to be the buzz word nowadays … even churches are getting into the act. Is there a difference in church ministry and marketplace ministry? What are the goals of marketplace ministry? Is it just winning souls for Christ in the marketplace? Starting a prayer meeting in our office; meeting for bible study in the workplace; holding lunch time meetings … etc. Christians have been doing these things since the 70′s and even further. Is marketplace ministry just an extension of the church ministry into the marketplace?
We need to be more specific and clear in our thinking. What is the Spirit saying about the ‘Church’ and what is the Spirit saying about the ‘Marketplace Ministry’? What are some obstacles that a marketplace minister will face as he pursue his calling in the marketplace? You have mentioned some of these problems – like the tension that a marketplace minister will face between the marketplace and the church; does a marketplace ministry needs a church covering?
I am just throwing some thoughts for consideration.
Hi I agree that marketplace has been the buzz word for long, but the fact is , not many are clearly defining themselves in to what exactly do we do in market place ministry. what are the objectives of such ministry.
Finally we know that the end result is to engage people in market place to reach out into evangelism. However, In reality, there is always a thinking among the church leaders that the Market place ministry with its attractive agenda can pull people out of the church.
Market place ministry is not a church based ministry. It is a Kingdom based ministry.
Starting a prayer meeting in our office; meeting for bible study in the workplace; holding lunch time meetings. (All these are NOT Market place ministries ) these are what every Christian with a thoughtfulness has been doing.
Its about
1. Influencing the influencers if you are in a working mode.
2. Its about changing and transforming values of the organization to more focus on GOD his purpose.
3. Identifying God in the process of the organization.
4. Identifying God in your conversation.
5. Branding your organization as a Christian organization.
Its more of biblical values based business / working culture transformation that need to happen at workplace.
The blissfulness of God’s guidance at workplace will bring about a transformation at workplace. The vision is only in a stage where everyone is being aware about it.
Just as simple as this. Replace all management values at work with biblical values. Which means that what we think, we perform, we converse are based on biblical values.
WE are in a time where many market place movements have started, however, we need to wait and see how many of these movements take the world by storm.
Sounds good Aint it?
